NJPW Wrestling Toyonokuni 2017 (29/4/17) Review

It’s NJPW Wrestling Toyonokuni featuring Juice/Naito and Ricochet/Hiromu!

-I missed the majority of the undercard and don’t really have the time or the drive to catch-up with it so I’m just gonna review the matches I did see.

Will Ospreay/YOSHI-HASHI/Hirooki Goto vs. Suzuki-gun

Decent little match, Chaos have a good start but Suzuki-gun soon enough take control with their tactics and they work on YOSHI-HASHi til he finally makes the tag to Goto who has a little exchange with Suzuki until Ospreay finally comes in for the end sequence where he gets the win with an Oscutter on Taka.
Winners: CHAOS(via Oscutter) ***

Chase Owens/Kenny Omega/Bad Luck Fale vs. Toru Yano/Tomohiro Ishii/Kazuchika Okada

Good match, had some stuff between Fale/Okada and Ishii/Omega that worked as nice little tasters for their matches on Wednesday, a few usual Yano tactics and Owens being the fall guy, taking a Rainmaker to lose by pinfall.
Winners: CHAOS(via Rainmaker) ***1/4

IWGP Jr Heavyweight  Title match: Ricochet vs. Hiromu Takahashi (c)

Great match between these two as you’d expect, just an all out back and forth contest full of awesome stuff and a quick pace throughout. Ricochet fought hard but in the end fell victim to a Timebomb making Hiromu retains. Man I love Hiromu.
Winner: Hiromu Takahashi(via Timebomb) ****1/4

Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. EVIL

Really good match between these two, Tana goes straight for EVIL before’s he’s even entered the ring and has the upper-hand at the start, but EVIL soon enough switches the control and then it becomes a very enjoyable back and forth contest, BUSHI and SANADA do get involved at one point taking out Tana but after Tana avoids BUSHI’s mist which hits SANADA instead, Taguchi comes out and makes the save with his butt. This leads to the finishing stretch where EVIL almost gets the win but Tana manages to overcome and finishes him with the High Fly Flow.
Winner: Hiroshi Tanahashi(via High Fly Flow) ***3/4

Main Event – IWGP Intercontinental Title match: Tetsuya Naito (c) vs. Juice Robinson

Great main event here, really good work from the two of them. Naito worked on Juice’s leg throughout and Juice did good job of selling and trying to work through the pain. The finishing stretch was particularly fantastic and made it really seem like Juice had a chance especially when he kicked out of a Destino. But despite a valiant effort, it just wasn’t enough though and Juice falls victim to a final Destino for Naito to retain the belt. This was the biggest match of Juice’s career so far and he really delivered and impressed, guys been on a real good streak lately and so has Naito really always delivering the good in these big matches. Awesome stuff.
Winner: Tetsuya Naito(via Destino) ****1/4

Milano and Liger’s reaction to Juice hitting a spinebuster on the edge of the ring.

-Post match Tanahashi comes out and challenges Naito for the Belt next. That should be awesome.

Well once again New Japan manage to deliver with their big matches, definitely recommend the main event and Jr title match, Tana and EVIL was still very good but can quite easily be looked over. Great stuff. ***3/4
