AJPW Champion Carnival 2017 Final (30/4/17) Review

So here it is the Champion Carnival final, this time I will be looking at the whole show, since it’s just the final match left. So let’s go.

Match 1 – Yuma Aoyagi vs. Yusuke Okada

Decent little match. Very good effort from the young Okada trying to get the pinfall but in the end Yuma catches him with a bridging fisherman suplex to win.
Winner: Yuma Aoyagi(via Bridging German suplex) **3/4

Match 2 – Atsushi Aoki vs. Koji Niizimi

Another short decent back and forth match, that see Aoki win after changing a boston crab into a Texas Cloverleaf making Koki tap.
Winner: Atsushi Aoki(via texas Cloverleaf) **3/4

Match 3 – KING/Ultimo Dragon vs. Koji Iwamoto/Yohei Nakajima

Pretty good little tag match, kept a good pace and I enjoyed Dragon getting the upperhand often on his two opponents, in the end though Yohei connects with a spin kick on KING’s head and get the victory.
Winner: Koji/Yohei (via high spinkick) ***

Match 4 – Evolution(Hikaru Sato & Suwama) vs. Jun Akiyama & Daichi Hashimoto

Good match. they kept the action flowing and it was a nice back and forth affair, Jun even busts out a Wrist-clutch exploder for the finish to win the match.
Winner: Jun/Daichi (via Wrist-clutch Exploder) ***1/4

Match 5 – NEXTREAM(Jake Lee & Naoya Nomura) vs. Takao Omori & The Bodyguard

Another good tag match. Omori/bodyguard get control of Nomura for a small portion and they have a fun back and forth finishing stretch where Jake finally gets the win with a big backdrop.
Winner: Jake Lee/Nomura(via backdrop) ***1/4

Match 6 – Daisuke Sekimoto, Kengo Mashimo & Kento Miyahara vs. KAI, Ryouji Sai & Zeus

Really good match here. Guys all really went for it and delivered a good pace match that had a great long finishing stretch which in the end had Kento struggling to put Zeus down after he kicks out of 3 different  Blackout knees, Kento finally gets him down for pinfall though after a Shutdown German Suplex. Very Enjoyable.
Winner: Kento/Mashimo/Sekitmoto (via Shutdown German Suplex) ***3/4

Main Event – Champion Carnival 2017 Final match: Joe Doering vs. Shuji Ishikawa

Really good main event and final, very physical and back and forth contest. At the end Shuji seemed to have the upperhand but Joe came back and looked to end things with a Revolution bomb, but he struggled to get Shuji up all the way and ends up just dropping Shuji and falling to the ground and it’s that failure that lead to Joe’s demise, though he still wouldn’t go down easy and it a took a third and final Fire Thunder driver to finally put him down for good. Making Shuji the 2017 Champion carnival winner. Great stuff from both guys.
Winner: Shuji Ishikawa(via fire Thunder driver) ***3/4

Very enjoyable show, all the undercard stuff was good especially the final tag match and the Main event delivered well. It’s been fun watching this Champion Carnival all the way through, Shuji winning is an interesting choice and him against Kento should be very good.
Of course Day 8 is still yet to air, so it’s not all over yet and I’m sure I’ll be reviewing that too. Also will still probably keep reviewing older Champion Carnival stuff as I’ve been doing though it’ll be more sporadic. Anyway fun show overall. ***1/4
