NJPW G1 Climax 27 2017 Day 4 (22/7/17) Review

It’s day 4 with the second lot of B Block matches, the first bunch was certainly solid, so lets see if they can keep it up or do even better. Main Event this time is Okada/Elgin which is sure to deliver.

B Block Match 1 – Satoshi Kojima vs. Toru Yano

Pretty decent match that was a little more competitive than the usual Yano match, of course he still busts out his usual antics throughout and manages to get the win with the low blow/schoolboy combo. Kojima of course takes things a little more serious and busts out some good stuff but it wasn’t enough to get past Yano’s tricks.
Winner: Yano [2] (via low blow/schoolboy) **3/4

B Block Match 2 – Juice Robinson vs. EVIL

Really good match between these two. Juice came straight at EVIL right out of the gate, so they wasted no time getting right into things. Juice seemed to be nursing his neck on the way to the ring, so that became a focus of attack for EVIL who gets a little bit of control. Juice comes back though and they have a really fun finishing stretch with the crowd getting really into it. Also like Juice busting out a Kokeshi in tribute to the recovering Tomiaki Honma. Very enjoyable match.
Winner: EVIL [2] (via EVIL) ***3/4

B Block Match 3 – Minoru Suzuki vs. SANADA

Solid match up. Desperado gets involved early on, so Suzuki gets some control, but SANADA soon enough gets back into things with the crowd really rallying behind him. Really liked the finishing sequence with both constantly reversing the sleeper or Skull End until finally Suzuki quickly catches SANADA with the Gotch Style piledriver to get the pinfall. Suzuki’s control stuff was a bit naff, mainly just him attacking Sanada on the outside, but the match picked up well and I enjoyed it, I know it’s stil early days but I’ve been really liking SANADA in this tournament so far.
Winner: Suzuki [2] (via Gotch-Style Piledriver) ***1/2

B Block Match 4 – Kenny Omega vs. Tama Tonga

Another solid match-up. Tama gets some control early on and spouts some stuff on the mic about Omega’s loyalty and no truly being Bullet Club cause of the Elite stuff, crowd didn’t really some to care much for it. he also goes after the same leg that Suzuki focused on during day 2 but Tama only does a couple things and doesn’t follow up much on it at all. They have a fun little finishing stretch though with Omega getting the win with the One Winged Angel.
Winner: Omega [4] (via One Winged Angel) ***1/2

B Block Main Event – Michael Elgin vs. Kazuchika Okada

What an absolute corker of a main event and second best match of the tournament so far. Just an incredible back and forth match with a great atmosphere. There were a few times where it looked like Elgin had it, but he just couldn’t keep Okada down and in the end ate a Rainmaker to lose the match. Still it was a strong effort from both guys packed with drama and lots of great action and consistent pacing. Okada continues to have an incredible year, delivering in these big matches, lord knows if he’ll keep it up all G1 though.
Winner: Okada [4] (via Rainmaker) ****1/4

Another solid outing for B block, not as strong as A but still enjoyable nonetheless. Definitely recommend Elgin/Okada and Juice/Evil, rest of it was fine but nothing special. tournament is certainly going well so far though.
