Day 10 of the G1 Climax as we officially reach the halfway point of the B Block and the whole tournament itself.
B Block Match 1 – EVIL vs. Toru Yano
This was very short and fun. Yano gets attacked as soon as he enters the ring and his antics don’t seem to have much effect on EVIL, at the end he manages a sneaky low blow but EVIL gives him the EVIL straight after it and gets the win. EVIL is doing incredibly well for himself in this tournament so far, having only lost one match thus far.
Winner: EVIL (via EVIL) **3/4
B Block Match 2 – Minoru Suzuki vs. Tama Tonga
Well this was alright. Tama starts things differently an comes out during Suzuki’s entrance and attacks him from behind. They then spend the majority of it brawling around the arena and through the crowd and almost both get counted out. They then have a small exchange in the ring, the ref gets knocked down and Tama hits a Gunstun but nobody is around to make the count. The ref recovers and Tonga goes for the Gunstun again but Suzuki blocks him, put him in a sleeper and gives him a Gotch-style piledriver to get the pinfall. Match was certainly a little different but the outside stuff was middling and wasn’t all that interesting. Like they tried to make it look heated but it didn’t really come across that way. Not bad though.
Winner: Minoru Suzuki (Via Gotch Style Piledriver) **1/2
B Block Match 3 – SANADA vs. Michael Elgin
Very good match between these two. Just a straight up enjoyable back and forth contest with SANADA’s agility and athleticism against Elgin’s power. Both guys needed a win and it’s SANADA that gets it who I’m still continuing to really enjoy in this G1, though Elgin has had a strong showing too despite his struggle to get main wins. Really solid effort overall.
Winner: SANADA (via Moonsault) ***3/4
B Block Match 4 – Satoshi Kojima vs. Kenny Omega
Kojima sadly continues down the same path as Nagata, really struggling to get that win in superb match. Omega seemed to take Kojima lightly in the beginning and even wears the tights he usually wears for tag matches. But Kojima certainly didn’t make it easy at all which made for a tough contest and I was really rooting for Kojima to get that win and he even managed to hit a CCD, but it just wasn’t enough and now he much like Nagata is mathematically eliminated from tournament. Great match-up nonetheless.
Winner: Omega (via One Winged Angel) ****1/4
B Block Main Event – Juice Robinson vs. Kazuchika Okada
Great main event to end the day. Juice is another that’s been struggling in the tournament with only one win behind him, he put in valiant effort though, with even Okada towards the end trying to fire Juice up to keep on fighting and give him his best, while lead into an awesome finishing stretch with Juice coming so close to hitting Pulp friction. But instead he is thwarted and falls victim to the rainmaker, which mathematically eliminates him from the tournament and keeps Okada the only guy to be undefeated so far.
Winner: Okada (via rainmaker) ****
Another Solid Day for B Block, though I do think Tonga/Minoru has been the weakest match so far even though it was different, definitely recommend the final three matches though, lots of good stuff to enjoy, particularly Omega/Kojima. Good times.
