NJPW G1 Climax 27 2017 Day 13 (4/8/17) Review

Day 13 of the G1 as we get closer to the home-stretch with more A Block action.

A Block Match 1 – Kota Ibushi vs. Yuji Nagata

Very solid match. they take their time in the beginning and Nagata gets some control working on Ibushi’s arm, but when Ibushi comes back things start to pick up and they start exchanging some good strikes and have an enjoyable finishing stretch. Was certainly surprised at Nagata kicking out of the Golden Star Bomb but it seems as though he’s trying to push his Kamigoe knee as his main finisher. Good stuff.
Winner: Ibushi [8] (via Kamigoe) ***1/2

A Block Match 2 – Bad Luck Fale vs. Tomohiro Ishii

Another solid match-up that increasingly got better as it went along. Ishii tries to come at Fale hard but Fale keeps getting him down and takes control early on. Ishii shows his toughness though and gets back into things getting Fale with stiff strikes and even busting out a shining enzugiri. He also smartly goes for an armbar a few time to try and get Fale with a submission but despite a good effort, Fale gets him with the Bad Luck Fall to take the points.
Winner: Fale [8] (via Bad Luck Fall) ***1/2

A Block Match 3 – YOSHI-HASHI vs. Hirooki Goto

Good match between these two. They jump right into things from the get go and keep a consistent  pace throughout with lots of solid back and forth action. Goto ends up getting the win but Yoshi-Hashi still put up a good fight.
Winner: Goto [8] (via GTR) ***1/2

A Block Match 4 – Tetsuya Naito vs. Zack Sabre Jr.

Yeah this was pretty great. You had Sabre constantly coming at Naito with submissions and Naito had to work hard to avoid and get out of them. He finally gets the Destino to get the win but the way clutches his shoulder post-match, shows it certainly wasn’t an easy win. Really good stuff.
Winner: Naito [12] (via Destino) ****

A Block Main event – Togi Makabe vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi

Really good main event. They worked it well in a good paced back and forth contest with Tana getting the victory. Match wasn’t blow away but certainly really well executed  and enjoyable.
Winner: Tanahashi [10] (via High Fly Flow) ***3/4

Probably the weakest show for A Block so far, everything was still very solid but and enjoyable but there was nothing truly outstanding. I’d say Sabre/Naito, Nagata/Ibushi and Ishii/Fale are all worth checking out though.
