NJPW G1 Climax 27 2017 Day 15 (6/8/17) Review

Day 15 of the G1 Climax with only two show left for each block, we’re getting into crunch time.

A Block Match 1 – Zack Sabre. Jr vs. Yuji Nagata

YAY NAGATA GOT HIS FIRST WIN!. What a great opening block match too. Nagata also well versed in submission wrestling so he had the best chance in the block to match-up to Sabre, despite Sabre being a lot more nimble and agile. Sabre still gave it a good go though, he focused on Nagata’s left arm throughout, but Nagata got his own back, punishing Sabre’s arm in retaliation, so at one point they just go back and forth kicking each others arms. In the end Nagata got Sabre with the backdrop driver hold, giving him the win with been longing for all this time. BLUE JUSTICE IS SERVED!. Really liked this match a lot and how it was worked. Awesome stuff.
Winner: Nagata [2] (via Backdrop Driver Hold) ****1/4

A Block Match 2 – Kota Ibushi vs. YOSHI-HASHI

Really solid match between these two. Starts out a little slow but picks up really well and has some fun action. Seems the Golden Star Bomb>kickout>Kamigoe is Ibushi’s new standard finish since he’s done it 3 times in a row now, though I think the golden-star bomb would have been enough to put Yoshi-Hashi away. Good stuff overall though.
Winner: Ibushi [10] (via Kamigoe) ***1/2

A Block Match 3 – Bad Luck Fale vs. Hirooki Goto

This was good. Fale gets control early on works Goto’s leg a little. Goto then come back and holds his own well leading to some solid back and forth action with Fale picking up the win after a grenade.
Winner: Fale [10] (via Grenade) ***1/4

A Block Match 4 – Tetsuya Naito vs. Togi Makabe

Really good match. Naito’s another guy that works really well with Makabe and they delivered a very enjoyable back and forth match-up. Naito gets the victory putting him at the top of the block
Winner: Naito [12] (via Destino) ***3/4

A Block Main event – Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Tomohiro Ishii

Always look forward to seeing these two go at it and they killed in an absolute corker of the match. Tanahashi tries his best to match toughness with Ishii leading to lots of intense moments. He also focuses on Ishii’s leg somewhat softening him up for the cloverleaf but at one point Ishii retaliates and starts attacking Tana’s legs and even locks in Sasori-gatame which was a nice little tribute to his trainer Riki Choshu. Lots of great action to enjoy here. Absolutely superb match.
Winner: Tanahashi [12] (via High fly Flow) ****1/2

Very enjoybale A Block show, Highly recommend Tana/Ishii & Nagata/Sabre for sure. Everything else was quite good too. Looks like it’s gonna be down to Niaot or Tanahashi going into the final. Looking forward to the last A Block day.
