It’s the Raw exclusive PPV No Mercy, with two huge main events as Reigns battle Cena and Strowman takes on Lesnar for the Universal Title. Lets see how it goes.
Pre-show match – Apollo Crews vs. Elias
Solid little match to kick things off. They paced things well and delivered some good action. Elias gets the win as Crews stays trapped in purgatory.
Winner: Elias (via drift away) **3/4
Match 1 – Intercontinental Title Match – The Miz (c) vs. Jason Jordan
this was a very good match-up. Jordan did well managing to deliver a variety of suplexes whilst Miz relied on a Miztourage distraction to gain control and then used their interference again at the end to retain the belt. The big issue was that the crowd just wouldn’t get behind Jordan, which is a shame since he did put on an impressive performance and they clearly enjoyed the match. But I guess Miz is just too much on a good run and attempts to get Jordan over just ain’t working out so well. Still it was a very enjoyable match overall.
Winner: Miz (via Skull Crushing finale) ***1/2
-After the match Renee goes into the ring to interview Jordan about his loss, which was a mistake since Jordan’s mic skills still aren’t the best and the crowd just ended up booing him.
Match 2 – Bray Wyatt vs. Finn Balor
I went into this with very little hype for it and I ended up enjoying the hell out of it. I think they just ended up working it real well. Wyatt basically assaults Balor before the match starts which ‘injures’ Balor’s rib. The refs start walking him to the back but Wyatt gets on the mic talks trash and provokes Balor, which makes him want to carry on with the match. So he does and continues to fight through the pain throughout the match and ends up getting the win. It was really well paced and had a lot of good action and they told the story of Balor having to beat Wyatt not as just a man really well. Now another big loss for Wyatt, once again helps him in no way. But I haven’t had much hope for the guy in a long time now. Damn good match though.
Winner: Balor (Coup de Grace) ***1/2
Match 3 – Raw Tag team Title Match: Sheamus & Cesaro vs. Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose (c)
Really good tag match between these teams. Sheamus & Cesaro get control early and continue to dominate the majority of the match as Rollins & Ambros play he struggling faces that get their asses beat but refuse to stay down and manage to come back and retain their belts. Cesaro & Sheamus’s control stuff was consistent and interesting as usual and there were a couple of cool spots, like Sheamus giving Ambrose the white noise and then Cesaro powerbombing Rollins off the top onto Ambrose. Also Cesaro gets a couple teeth nocked out after a slingshot into the turnbuckle, so that’s fun. Really good stuff overall though as expected from two great teams.
Winners: Rollins/Ambrose (via Kings landing/dirty deeds combo) ***3/4
Match 4 – Raw Women’s Title Match: Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Nia Jax vs. Emma vs. Sasha Banks vs. Bayley
Thought this was a really solid Multi-womens match. May have had a few clunky bits but they kept the action constant and the crowd got super into it. Despite Bliss still managing to retain though, Niax Jax was clearly the star here, the crowd were behind her and she really did well for herself here, showing great confidence and power as well as taking quite a nasty bump getting powerbombed off the apron. Very fun match overall.
Winner: Alexa Bliss (via DDT) ***1/2
Match 5 – John Cena vs. Roman Reigns
Great match between these two polarizing stars. May have been a little by the numbers but they executed really well and the crowd really got into it by the end. Reigns basically gets control early on for a good portion of time and then they just go into a big back and forth contest with big moves close nearfalls. Reigns ends up standing victorious but he reigns does kick out of 4 AA’s in the match including one of the top rope and two in succession of each other at the end, which may seem excessive. But the way I see it, is the the AA as a finisher has been losing it’s effect for a while now and Cena getting older means the moves has less oomph behind it these days, then take into consideration that Reigns is the top dog with ‘Mania energy he absorbed from Undertaker after beating him and I can totally buy Reigns kicking out of them. The spear also stayed protected as only two were hit to put Cena down and one of them was through an announce table. But yeah I thought they did great and it was the best match of the show.
Winner: Reigns (via Spear) ****
Match 6 – Cruiserweight title Match: Neville (c) vs. Enzo Amore
This went exactly as I expected it too with Enzo getting his ass beat for all of it and then winning the title by cheating. Amore was bumping around well but the crowd didn’t care much and whole thing just didn’t feel right. I didn’t think it was awful but it was still very Meh and I don’t think Enzo is a good fit for champ.
Winner: Enzo (via Low Blow) **1/4
Main Event – Universal Title match: Braun Strowman vs. Brock Lesnar (c)
So I thought this was pretty good, but definitely disappointing with a very flat finish. I did like that Strowman was very dominant and made it a struggle for Lesnar, but Lesnar seemed to hit an F5 to get the win quite abruptly and the crowd reaction was very weird throughout, despite most of them standing on their feet throughout it, their reactions seemed to be all over the place which hurt the match. There’s also a bit with a Kimura lock which felt a bit awkward, but did work in giving Lesnar somewhat of a come back. Overall I enjoyed the match but it just didn’t match-up to it’s great hype.
Winner: Lesnar (via Kimura Lock) ***
Overall I thought this was a very solid show, the main event may have been a bit disappointing and the cruiser match wasn’t the best, but I though everything else delivered and I really enjoyed them all.
