BJW Saikyou Tag League (20/9/17) Review

So I noticed a lot of buzz going around for the main event of this show, so I decided to go check it out, especially since I keep meaning to watch and review BJW but haven’t got around to it. so here we go!

Match 1 – Abdullah Kobayashi, Hercules Senga, Ryuji Ito & Tsutomu Oosugi vs. Brahman Kei, Brahman Shu, Masaya Takahashi & Takayuki Ueki

This has been clipped so it just shows a couple of fun moments from the match, including Ueki getting his gun out. In the end Abdullah gets the win hitting a Western Lariat, dressed up in his Stan Hansen gear.
Winners: Abdullah’s team (via Western Lariat) NR

Match 2 – Kazuki Hashimoto, Shinobu & Takuya Nomura vs. Kota Sekifuda, Tatsuhiko Yoshino & Yuya Aoki

Another match that’s been clipped so it’s literally just the last couple of minutes. The Majority of it is an exchange between Aoki and Shinobu which was very enjoyable, with the young Aoki managing to get the win.
Winners: Sekifuda/Yosino/Aoki (via tiger suplex) NR

Match 3 – Kazumi Kikuta, Ryota Hama & Yasufumi Nakanoue vs. Ryuichi Kawakami, Taishi Takizawa & Yoshihisa Uto

Last of the Undercard matches and again it’s just the last couple of minutes which still shows some fun action.
Winners: Kawakami’s team (via Double Emerald Flowsion) NR

Match 4 – Saikyo Tag League 2017 Death Block ‘Fish & Chips’ Deathmatch: Jaki Numazawa & Kenji Fukimoto vs. Yankee Two Kenju (Isami Kodaka & Yuko Miyamoto)

By fish & Chips they mean a fishing rod, that gets hooked in Kodaka’s mouth for a considerable and discomforting amount of time and the chips appear to be shard of some material, like glass but I’m not entirely sure. Anyway aside Kodaka having a fish hook in his mouth a little too long, this was a pretty fun match-up with some good action, mainly from Kodaka and Miyamoto busting out some nice moves and in the end they get the win.
Winner: Yankee Two Kenju (via Yankee Driver) **3/4

Match 5 – Saikyou Tag League 2017 Death Block Match: Masashi Takeda & Takumi Tsukamoto vs. Kankuro Hoshino & Minoru Fujita

This was a solid helping of death match fun with some good action that was kept constant throughout the match and some fun hardcore bits including a sitout chokeslam onto an original Playstation and a cutter onto a vertical trash-can. In the end Takeda and Tsukamoto pick up the win. Really enjoyed that to be honest.
Winner: Takeda/Tsukamoto (via super kick) ***1/2

Match 6 – Saikyou Tag League 2017 Strong Block Match: Hideki Suzuki & Shogun Okamoto vs. Okami (Daichi Hashimoto & Hideyoshi Kamitani)

This was very good, thought it was a bit fumbly in the beginning but they really picked it up and deliver a fair amount of stiffness and enjoyable back and forth action. There was some really great leg selling from Hashimoto too, Hideki takes the leg out early on in the match and Hashimoto show it’s hurt continually through the match (unless he was genuinely hurt). Either way very solid stuff overall.
Winner: Hashimoto/Kamitani (via Backdrop) ***1/2

Main Event – Saikyou Tag League 2017 Strong Block Match: Daisuke Sekimoto & Kohei Sato vs. Shingo Takagi & Yuji Okabayashi

Yeah this was pretty darn awesome. First half is a really solid build-up and then the second half is straight up hot fire. A hoss battle with lots of big exchanges including the hossest Made In Japan I’ve ever seen. They literally just go all out leading to a 30 minute draw and the crowd were loving it all. Shingo really does fit in perfectly with BJW’s strong division and it’s nice and refreshing to see him in a different environment. Just great work from everyone involved, really enjoyed it.
No Winner: Time Limit Draw ****1/2

So yeah that main event certainly delivered as people have said, but I enjoyed the rest of the show too and thought two of the other tag league matches were good too. So good times all around.
